WILTON, Conn. The following letter is from Al Alper, chairman of the Republican Town Committee.
Wilton Republicans spent their weekend helping support families in need.
In two-hour shifts throughout both Saturday and Sunday at Stop & Shop, volunteers came together to collect food, supplies and donations to support Wiltons Food Bank.
Wilton is our home and that, as they say, is where charity begins, said Alper. Helping those in need is at the core of our beliefs and memorialized in our principals. Like our support of Wiltons town-wide cleanup earlier this year, the food drive is merely those principals in action.
Ray Tobiassen, the Wilton RTC member who organized the food drive, is always amazed and humbled by the generosity of Wiltons citizens. Nearly everyone who went into Stop & Shop came out with newly purchased supplies to donate to the food pantry, continued Tobiassen. There is just so much compassion in this town.
The shelves were bursting with newly stocked supplies, said Cathy Pierce, director of Social Services, who was in charge of the Food Bank.
In addition to food and supplies, more than $1,000 in cash and gift cards was also donated.
