Letter: Thank You For Making The Winter Carnival A Success

WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Send letters to wilton@dailyvoice.com.

The Miller-Driscoll Winter Carnival, held on March 9 was a tremendous success! This annual PTA benefit is a favorite of children and parents, and is a wonderful way to enjoy family time while supporting our school. Carnival games, crafts, and delicious food all added to the festivities, leaving attendees smiling and entertained.

The hard work of student and parent volunteers makes this event possible. Thank you to our enthusiastic student volunteers from the Wilton Girl Scout Troops, Wilton High School Key Club, Top Inclusion Model Students, Middlebrook Middle School, National Honor Society, and Our Lady of Fatima Youth Group, just to name a few. They fielded flying soccer balls, got sticky at cotton candy booths, painted faces, and everything in between. Parent volunteers were present at every booth to help children try to win games, create artwork, and enjoy all that the carnival had to offer.

The Miller-Driscoll administration and teachers kindly donated their time and talent, making the Winter Carnival a wonderful fundraiser to help bridge the gap between the Wilton Board of Education budget and the needs of the school. We would like to give a very special acknowledgement to the custodians, who dedicated many hours to the set-up, breakdown, and cleanup of the event. Their expertise, knowledge of the school, and manpower got us through the day, and restored the school to its normal shape for classes Monday morning.

We would also like to recognize the following local businesses, who so graciously donated their products and services to the carnival: Applegate Farms, Caraluzzi’s, Costco, Heavenly Bites, Izzi B’s, Pinocchio’s Pizza, and the Village Market. We are equally obliged to all the Silent Auction donors for making this the best yet. In addition, the Wilton Police Department is to be commended for helping to control traffic and parking at this popular event, not to mention their generous auction contribution.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to the PTA committee chairs and members, who spent months preparing for this day. Kudos to Hillary Morrissy and Carla Quigg (Class Projects); Jackie Couch and Jackie Shaw (Giving Tree); Christina Lenz and Lisa Smith (Café); Kim Pearson (Cotton Candy + Popcorn); Laurie Musilli (Grab Bags); Lisa Finn (Bake Sale); Wendee Sommerville (Prizes); Kim Hall & Sarah O’Malley (Crafts); Sheila Krawitz (Games); Kristen Schestag (Student Volunteer Coordinator); Torie Clancy (Publicity, Signage + Catalog); Gretchen Jeanes (Silent Auction); and Joel Krawitz (Set-up + Breakdown). We extend our gratitude to PTA Treasurer, Mike Whitman, for handling the cash and checks, while keeping an eye on the bottom line. We are also most appreciative of our PTA President, Kimber Felton, who lent support and guidance throughout this process.

It was our pleasure to work with such a competent and enjoyable group. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Sincerely,

Erin Adams, Evelyn Drew, Mandi Schmauch and Ginna Yerrall
