How Wilton Celebrates Turkey Day

WILTON, Conn. – It may be the most anticipated meal all year for many Americans, and in Wilton it’s no different.

After the cooking is done and the dishes are ignored, take a look back at what your favorite part of the dinner was. The turkey? Stuffing? Cranberry sauce? Or a combination of everything available?

The how of dinner can vary from resident to resident, but the basic ingredients of Thanksgiving Dinner remain the same. For example, Wilton resident Alex de Toulouse Lautrec will make a small turkey covered in bacon with salmon and foie gras as part of their sides and pecan pie for desert.

He’s half French he explained, “Anytime there is a chance to eat good food we take advantage of it." He, his wife and daughter plan on doing that while enjoying classic family movies – like "E.T."

Others, less fortunate, rely on the generosity of residents to make their Thanksgiving special. The Wilton Food Bank received a dozen boxes fully stocked with essentials for the holiday meal made by the preschoolers at The Children’s Day School of Wilton. Boxes include a turkey, side dishes, dessert and even a centerpiece.

The school's director, Pam Ely, told the Daily Wilton that having the children make the boxes was a way to show how the town helps those in need.

The Day School’s Thanksgiving meal project is organized by parent board members Kristin Partenza and Penny Schwartz, who serve as the school’s special events coordinators. “Families donate generously,” says Partenza
