A thresher shark weighing more than 500 pounds was caught by a trio of fishermen from the Staten Island Fishing Club following a three-hour battle off the coast of Sandy Hook, N.J. on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Joseph Egitto, 27, of Arden Heights; Pat Salvato, 42, of Tottenville; and Frank Pomponio, 25, of Great Kills, reeled in the 510-pound shark, which measured at a whopping 94 inches in length.

The three took turns strapping into a harness as they fought the shark, which was eventually dragged onto the 23-foot boat after it was hooked.

The Staten Island Fishing Club noted that the shark did not die in vain, and each piece of meat was distributed to friends and family members.
