WILTON, Conn. — Alexander Higle and Shu-Chuan Chen, owners of Culture Tea in Wilton, are brewing up a few new offerings at their tea shop.

They are offering a series of free health talks along with some new flavors of tea.

The talks, which will be taught by a different expert each week, will help customers learn how to improve their health.

“This series is about finding ideal health -- physically and mentally. At Culture Tea, we really want to promote health and relaxation,” Higle said. "With this series, we will be focusing on all different aspects of health."

The first class in the series, on March 22 from 6 to 7 p.m., will discuss ways to achieve vital health and combat stress. In the class, taught by Dr. Thomas Fastiggi, participants will learn relaxation and detoxification techniques.

In another class, on April 5 from 6 to 7 p.m., Dr. Loren Hager will discuss the causes and symptoms of lack of sleep, as well as natural and holistic ways of healing and restoring the body back to its natural sleep pattern.

Culture Tea, which opened in August in Wilton Center, sells over 60 kinds of tea.

New teas at Culture Tea include Chocolate Hearth, which contains black tea and saffron. It has a mild dessert flavor of caramel and chocolate.

Another new tea is Fairy Coat, which is a blend of berries, chocolate and flowers with a base of South African herbal tea.

Higle said tea is a much healthier alternative to coffee. "There is so much coffee everywhere these days. Tea contains many health components. It has antioxidants in it and often contains L-theanine, which counteracts the negative side effects from caffeine.

"With this ingredient, you get perked up by drinking the caffeine, but it doesn’t give you the jitters like coffee does. It has a calming effect on the body and the mind," he said.

Other upcoming events at Culture Tea include a comedy night on April 7 and a cooking evening called “Creativi-Tea,” on April 8.

At this event, feature gourmet chef Anne McClelland -- manager of PGA Golf Tournaments catering -- will cook a three-course meal that incorporates teas from around the world.
