The 4 p.m. Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room concert will be followed by a reception with Castaneda's latest recording, "Double Portion," available to buy. The library's suggested donation for the concert is $10.

Library officials suggest advance registration, and concert-goers should arrive by 3:50. Those on the waiting list or not registered for the event will be admitted after 3:50 p.m. if space is available.

Castaneda, who was born in Bogota, brought his Latin-infused jazz to the U.S. in 1994. According to Paquito D’Rivera, Edmar’s frequent collaborator, “Edmar is…an enormous talent; he has the versatility and the enchanting charisma of a musician who has taken his harp out of the shadow to become one of the most original musicians from the Big Apple.”

Castaneda has performed throughout the New York area. including features at D'Rivera’s Carnegie Hall tribute, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, and the 10th annual World Harp Congress. He has also played with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, John Scofield, Marcos Miller, John Patitucci, and Chico O'Farrill's Afro-Cuban Jazz Big Band.

The library's Hot & Cool concerts are made possible by the William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer and Chris and Tish Brubeck.
