WILTON, Conn. High school football, a historical walking tour and Ambler Farms big fall festival are some of the events planned for this weekend in and around Wilton.
Friday
Fiber Fridays at the Wilton Historical Society: 10 a.m. to noon. Come to stitch and chat about your handwork, ask questions, share stories and anything that comes to mind. All are welcome. Coffee and tea served. Host Arlene Parkhurst will be available to untangle your questions. Admission is free for historical society members and $10 for non-members. Wilton High School Girls Volleyball: 5:30 p.m. The Wilton Warriors host the Danbury High School Hatters at the Wilton High School Field House. Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road.
Saturday
Wilton High School Homecoming Festival: 2 p.m. This is the first year of the Homecoming Festival, which will be run by Wilton High clubs. The festival will have ring-toss, face-painting and other activities for the whole family. The homecoming parade will start around 2:30 p.m. and will overlap with the festival. Both events will run prior to the homecoming game. Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road.
Wilton High School Football: 3 p.m. The Wilton High School Warriors visit the Brien McMahon High School Senators. Tom Fujitani Field at Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road.
Helping Hands Day at Wilton Library: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to come to the library for this all-day touch-a-truck program. Wilton EMS, the Wilton Fire Department and the Wilton Police Department will join the library at various times with their vehicles and will also give short presentations for the children. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road.
New Perspectives Film: Capturing the Friedmans at Wilton Library: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Capturing the Friedmans is a documentary film directed by Andrew Jarecki. It focuses on the 1980s investigation of Arnold and Jesse Friedman for child molestation and how a community reacts to charges that might be questionable. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Documentary Feature in 2003. Suggested donation of $5. Refreshments served. The New Perspectives Documentary series is programmed and moderated by filmmaker, Megan Smith-Harris. A Q&A session will follow the film. Registration highly recommended. Wilton Library and Wilton Historical Society Scholarly Series: 2 p.m. The Scholarly Series collaboration between the Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society celebrates its sixth season with a timely bicentennial tribute -- this year's theme is A Star Spangled Nation: The War of 1812. The four-part lecture series continues through February 2013. This Sundays discussion will be on the Causes and Impact of the War, Presented by Matthew Warshauer and moderated by Steve Hudspeth.
