WILTON, Conn. -- Avoid the mess at home! On Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 5 p.m., is a “BYOP” (Bring Your Own Pumpkin!) event at the Wilton Historical Society.
Join museum educator Allison Reznik in the 1860 Abbott Barn as she leads a fun Halloween pumpkin-carving and -decorating session for children and adults.
Pumpkins are available for purchase on-site from the Kiwanis Club or participants can bring their own pumpkin.
The Wilton Historical Society will supply carving tools, craft materials, cider and cookies.
This activity is suggested for children ages 8 and up. It is not a drop-off program. Cost is $5. for members, $10 for nonmembers.

A note from the Wilton Historical Society: Did you know the term “pumpkin head” refers to early New England Puritans? There is disagreement as to the exact origin of the term. Two possibilities include the alleged practice of using a pumpkin shell as a template for haircuts to ensure a round and uniform finished cut ... or perhaps it was the large quantity of pumpkin that was part of the early Colonists’ diet.
