WILTON, Conn. Isabelle Bell will be excited to see hundreds of people walking though Wilton Center on Saturday especially if theyre coming to pick up a few things.
People should shop in town and shop locally, said Bell, owner of Bella & Co. jewelry store in Cannondale Village. You should shop in your local area and promote business.
Bell will join other Wilton merchants and take to the sidewalks of Old Ridgefield Road to participate in the first ever Wilton Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale. This is the first time the Wilton Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a day-long summer street fair. For year, other lower Fairfield County towns have hosted street festivals while Wilton merchants have organized special sale days on their own.
Wilton Chamber Executive Director Janeen Leppert said the goal of the sale is to put Wilton Center on the map as a shopping destination. Old Ridgefield Road will be closed to vehicle traffic and shop owners in other areas of the center will participate by setting up outdoor tables to display their products and services. Leppert said shes seen the success other neighboring towns have had with sidewalk sales and she wants Wilton to be seen as a place to find good deals.
The response weve received (from merchants) is amazing, Leppert said. We think its going to be really awesome and we think it will bring a lot of traffic to our town.
Jan Peterson, owner of Stewart Flowers, is excited for the prospect of hundreds of people from Wilton and the surrounding area coming to shop and see what Wilton is about. I hope Wiltonians come out and mingle and get some bargains, Peterson said. I think its is good for us to have.
The Wilton Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
