And those students may notice a few major changes this school year. Thomas McMorran, who had been head of school at Joel Barlow High School, took over the post of superintendent from Bernard Josefsberg, who retired July 1.

Gina Pin is now the newly appointed interim head of school at Joel Barlow High School. She was previously the assistant principal.

Pin earned a bachelor’s of science degree in general education and special education from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1985. In 1991, she received her master's of science degree in school counseling from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. In 2005, she received her school leadership degree from the University of Bridgeport. She plans to complete her doctorate of education in educational leadership in 2016 from Manhattanville College.

Pin previously worked in the Ridgefield Public Schools as both a special education and psychology teacher and also as a student life coordinator from 1996 to 2008. From July 2008 to 2015, Pin was the assistant principal of Joel Barlow High School.

She will lead the the over 1,000-member student body this school year.

A few students went to school a bit early this year. This past Monday, Aug. 24, Joel Barlow held a new student orientation, offering students a chance to meet the new head of school along with old and new friends as well as teachers, school counselors, and administrators.
