The Samuel Meeker Homestead at 188 Cross Highway was built in 1728 and was spared during the British Army’s Danbury Raid in 1777. The home is listed for $1,499,000. An open house will be held on Sunday, March 26, from 1-3 p.m.

The property agent is David Kinyon of William Raveis. Click here for property details.

The home includes four bedrooms, five bathrooms and sits on 1.21 acres. It was owned for several generations of the Meeker family. Wendy Van Wie and her husband, Mark Yurkiw, have owned the house since 2003 and have restored and repaired the buildings on the property.

The parcel, which is also known as the Schilthius-Meeker House, is listed on the town’s Historic Resources Inventory.

The home still contains the original front door, complete with a musket ball hole that was created during the Danbury Raid. The home includes five fireplaces, a kitchen with Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, a spacious great room with barrel ceiling and a Brazilian cheery floor.

The first floor includes a Waterworks bath, large walk-in and separate office. The home also features hand-hewn beams and wide-plank floors. More than 576 square feet is also available on the lower level.

The house, in essence, melds three centuries of architecture. The original part was built in the 1700s. A Colonial Revival wing was added in 1929, and a Mid-Century Modern piece was added in the 1960s.

The home sits near the Fairfield line. While the neighborhood requires two-acre lots, Van Wie and Yurkiw got approval from the town to subdivide their 2.9-acre property into two separate lots. The properties are designated as a historic district.

There is also a great room with three sets of French doors leading to a patio, a fireplace flanked by doors into a private master suite, which includes a fireplace. The suite also has hardwood floors, a deep soaking tub, two pedestal sinks and access to a private patio.
