WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Republican Town Committee unanimously approved Eileen Buckley as a Life Member on Feb. 9 for her many years of distinguished service on behalf of state and local GOP candidates.

“Eileen is a unique combination of leader, mentor and ‘doer,’” said Weston RTC Chair Britta Lerner.

“There is no one in this room who hasn’t benefited from her wisdom and the path she has laid for us all. The Republican Party and this RTC are more focused for her efforts.”

During her four decades on the RTC, Eileen has done everything from serving as RTC Vice Chair, to driving candidates, to stuffing envelopes, to working at the polls on Election Day.

She did double duty as Republican Registrar from 1987-2009.

State Sen. Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) and State Rep. John Shaban (R-Redding, Easton and Weston) presented Eileen with a Connecticut General Assembly Official Citation for her efforts on behalf of the Town of Weston, and local and state Republican politics.

“I have always felt it a duty as a good citizen to take part in the political process in some way. Helping quality candidates get elected to office was my contribution to good government and it has been a very rewarding experience," Buckley said.

She worked on former State Rep. John Stripp’s campaigns for many years.

More recently, Buckley supported Boucher, State Representative Tony Hwang (R-134th), Shaban and Probate Court Judge, Lisa Wexler, as well as municipal candidates.

Buckley has lived in Weston since 1967. Her two children benefited from a Weston schools education which Eileen supported through active PTO involvement including service as Weston Middle School PTO President.

Currently, Eileen is an active member-volunteer at Norfield Church, PEO and the Woman’s Club of Weston.

The RTC adopted the Life Member designation in 2014 to allow distinguished members with at least 15 years tenure to participate in an honorary way when they no longer wish to continue regular membership.

Buckley joins an elite group of RTC Life Members that includes Dr. Tom Aquila, Jane Gray and Glenn Major.

A Life Member may attend meetings and executive sessions as well as advise or serve on committees.

“Eileen often speaks of how old she is getting—on the contrary, we all agree that she is one of the youngest members on the Committee—her energy and experience are boundless. We are all truly grateful for her willingness to continue as a Life Member,” Britta said.

The Weston Republican Town Committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month.

Members of the public are welcome to attend. For more information, go to
