WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Connecticut Education Association and AFT Connecticut have endorsed Kim Fawcett in her run for the State Senate District 28 representing Easton, Fairfield and Newtown and parts of Weston and Westport.
The two groups represent a combined 72,000 teachers, school workers and other professionals in Connecticut.
Fawcett, a four-term state representative from Fairfield who served as vice chair of the Children's Committee, said she is honored to have the teachers' support. She said she will continue her efforts to ensure that teachers' voices are heard in Hartford.
"I have made it a priority to listen to teachers and to make sure their concerns are addressed in everything we do related to education policy," Fawcett said in a statement. "In 2015, I want to slow down and dramatically rethink the Common Core standards and testing requirements in response to concerns raised by our dedicated and hard-working teachers."
