WESTON, Conn. – The agenda of the first meeting for Weston’s newly elected First Selectman Nina Daniel was fairly ordinary, but the atmosphere was anything but, according to a report in The Weston Forum.
Daniel was elected to the board on Nov. 3, beating out then-First Selectman Gayle Weinstein. However, Weinstein still received enough votes to win a seat on the board as a selectman. She announced last week that she would instead resign her position on the board.
The sparks flew at the Thursday, Nov. 19, meeting after the Pledge of Allegiance, when the very first item on the agenda was Weinstein’s resignation – effective the next day, Friday, Nov. 20, the Weston Forum reported.
The Weston Forum reported that the interactions between Daniel and Weinstein were tense throughout the meeting. Weinstein said she had emailed Daniel asking her to move her resignation to the end of the agenda, but said that Daniel had not responded, according to the Forum. Daniel said that Weinstein refused to answer her questions about a meeting that Weinstein had set up in Town Hall earlier that day, according to the report.
There were several more back-and-forth interactions between the two throughout the meeting, according to the Weston Forum.
