WESTPORT, Conn. -- Two debates for candidates in upcoming Westport elections will be sponsored this month.

The debates will be sponsored by the League of Women voters of Westport, the Westport Library and the Westport PTA Council. 

The first debate will be held Monday, Oct. 16 and will feature candidates for the Board of Education, followed by the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Board of Assessment, and Planning and Zoning. The second debate will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24 and will feature candidates for first and second selectman, and for the Board of Finance. In both debates, candidates will have the opportunity to give brief comments, as well as respond to questions collected from the audience and read by a moderator.

Both debates will be held at Westport Town Hall from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Charlotte Garrell, former president of the Fairfield LWV and board member of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, will moderate the events. There will be an opportunity to meet and greet the candidates for the Representative Town Meeting prior to the debates in the lower lobby from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The debates will be televised live on Public Access Channel 79 and Frontier Channel 99 and will be rebroadcast until Election Day, which will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7.
