Update: The charges in this case have been dismissed.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Police arrested a Westport man early Monday on a charge of driving under the influence.
Officers stopped Alec Eichrodt, 20, of Sturges Highway, when they noticed sparks coming from a wheel well on the car's passenger side while he traveled west on Post Road, police said.
Eichrodt continued on Post Road for three-tenths of a mile before yielding to the officer’s sirens, police said. That is when offices noticed he was operating his motor vehicle without a tire, or rim, on his front passenger side.
“He was riding on the rotor,” Lt. James Perez said Monday.
Eichrodt admitted to drinking earlier in the night, but officers were unable determine what happened to his vehicle, police said.
He was released on $100 bond and issued a misdemeanor summons. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.
