A Bridgeport man called the police to confess that he had just shot and killed his roommate, authorities say.

The confession took around 10:13 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, when an unidentified man called the Bridgeport Police to say he had just shot his roommate, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

Officers responded to the home at 49 Mill Hill Ave., and found a 53-year-old man dead inside the first floor of the residence, Jones said.

The victim appears to have sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The caller remained on the scene and was detained by police without incident.

According to police, the suspect is cooperating with detectives and is not being charged at this time pending further investigation.

Detectives secured a search warrant for the residence and are processing a crime scene.
