Shannon Gilman-Bey, 47, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 19, by Stamford Police after a dedicated officer spent hours searching for the man wanted for allegedly pulling a knife and assaulting a Macy’s employee while trying to steal clothes last month, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.
Conklin said Gilman-Bey, was stopped on Monday, July 15, by three Macy's loss prevention officers who they thought was stealing clothing. When stopped, Gilman-Bey began a struggle with the officers, and then pulled a razor knife and threatened to cut them.
He then fled the area, dropping the clothes he was attempting to steal along the way, Conklin said.
Following the incident, Stamford Officer Luis Serna received security video from the incident and after hours of work was able to identify Gilman-Bey. He then tracked him down at his place of employment, the Cheesecake Factory, which just happened to be next door to Macy's, Conklin said.
"The officers didn't think they would find him at the same place of employment after what happened," Conklin said. "But, he was there."
Gilman-Bey was charged with robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon, assault, larceny, and breach of peace. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
