A man has turned himself in to police headquarters after his alleged involvement in a dispute at a Westport tennis club.

Westport Police say Rahul Anand turned himself in to headquarters on an active warrant on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Officers responded to the tennis courts at Longshore (260 Compo Road South) on a report of an alleged disturbance between two parties on Monday, Aug. 26 around 6 p.m.

Further investigation revealed that a patron later identified as Anand had failed to follow the proper protocol by not signing in when he arrived, despite having made a reservation, police say.

When a staff member approached Anand to confront him, police say he became “extremely upset and belligerent,” yelling loudly and using profanity repeatedly.

Anand subsequently tried to provoke a physical fight, according to police.

The outburst occurred for an ongoing period of time and in the presence of a juvenile, police say.

During questioning, police say Anand claimed that it was others who had provoked and attacked him and felt that he was being treated unfairly.

Based on the investigation, police obtained a warrant for Anand’s arrest with charges for second-degree breach of peace.

Upon turning himself in, Anand was released on a written promise to appear and is scheduled to return to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment on Friday, Oct. 18.
