BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A “visibly irate” Trumbull man was arrested Tuesday night when a quick-thinking police officer stopped him from entering an East End deli carrying a hatchet, according to the Connecticut Post.

A Bridgeport police officer managed to convince a hatchet-wielding man to put down his weapon, the Post said.

Sgt. Jason Amato was on patrol when he saw Timothy Frey, 23, of Haviland Drive, leave the Sunshine Deli on Stratford Avenue, grab a hatchet from a parked truck and head back towards the deli, the Post said.

Amato was able to convince Frey to drop the weapon, the Post said. Witnesses told police a man in the deli had flipped Frey’s hat off just before Frey ran out.

Frey was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and was later released on $1,500 bond, the Post said.
