WESTPORT, Conn. Westport resident Robert "Bob" Lorenz, an Emmy Award-winning announcer on the Yankees Entertainment and Sports YES Network, was arrested early Wednesday and charged with drunken driving after he was found slumped over in his car, police said.
Lorenz, of Bittersweet Lane, was found unresponsive in his car after officers received a report of a man slumped over behind the wheel of a car stopped at Bridge Street and Compo Road South, police said. The cars engine was idling, and the transmission was in the drive position.
When Lorenz, 48, awoke, police said he drove slowly through the intersection. Officers ran alongside the vehicle and yelled for him to stop, which he did just short of hitting a light pole on the right shoulder of Greens Farms Road, according to the report.
Once stopped, Lorenz rolled down his window. Police said he smelled of alcohol and his speech was incomprehensible. He failed field sobriety tests but refused to submit to breath tests, police said.
Lorenz was charged with operating under the influence. Unable to post $500 bond, he was scheduled for arraignment later in the morning.
According to his official biography on the YES website, Lorenz is a three-time Emmy Award winner and is the networks primary anchor. He is also the host of the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets pre- and post-game shows, as well as the network's Yankees Baseball Daily, Yankees Hot Stove and Forbes SportsMoney shows.
Before joining the YES Network, Lorenz worked as an anchor at CNN/Sports Illustrated.
