WESTPORT, Conn. -- A group of about 30 Westport high school students, who traveled to Ecuador with "Builders Beyond Borders," are safe following a devastating earthquake that hit the country Saturday, said an official of the Norwalk-based group, according to the Westport News.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that devastated part of the country, left more than 415 people dead and injured more than 2,500, with the toll increasing daily, said the Westport News.
Amy Schroeder-Riggio, executive director of Builders Beyond Borders, told the Westport News the students, who were on school vacation breaks, traveled to the country to work helping to repair or build faciilties in their host cities. Part of the students have returned to the United States, and the last group is scheduled to arrive home this coming Sunday, added the Westport News.
