This week, the Connecticut Airport Authority board of directors voted unanimously to launch a study about how a potential name change at Bradley International Airport could help bolster flights coming in and out of the Nutmeg State.
The report is expected to be completed and released by the end of the year. The airport is currently named after former military man Eugene Bradley, who died in a dogfighting training exercise in 1941 in advance of World War II.
Officials have said that they intend to reach out to military and veterans groups as part of the study.
A potential name change comes as Bradley is preparing to break ground on a $210 million ground transportation center for rental cars and similar services.
According to reports, a name change has been discussed multiple times in the past, but never acted on by elected officials. The study is expected to examine whether a potential name change will draw in additional traffic by rebranding the airport. It will also examine the potential costs of rebranding for the airport and the state.
There have been no announced potential names for a rebranded Bradley International Airport.
