Kyle Navin, 27, was appearing Friday in federal court in Bridgeport in connection with his arrest on a charge of possession of a firearm by a drug addicted person, the Advocate said. Heroin and guns were found in Navin's Bridgeport home during a police search into the disappearance of his parents, Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin.
State Police confirmed Friday afternoon that the human remains of two people were found at an abandoned home near Weston Center. The state medical examiner is working to determine the gender, identity and cause of death for the two people.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Dayton made her statement to federal Magistrate William Garfinkel during a detention hearing for Navin, who being held at the federal Wyatt Detention Facility in Rhode Island, the Advocate said.
If charged with murder, Navin would likely be prosecuted in state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin were last seen on Aug. 4, reportedly by their son. They were reported missing on Aug. 7, and Jeffrey's Navin's pickup truck was found — with a bullet hole and blood in it — at a commuter parking lot off the Merritt Parkway in Westport that weekend.
Kyle Navin is operations manager of J&J Refuse, which was owned by his parents.
His federal indictment included cellphone records of texts between the father and son in which Jeffrey Navin accused Kyle Navin of killing his mother and trying to frame him. The father also said that he was going to the police.
Police also found a receipt from Home Depot from Aug. 5 at 8:36 p.m. that showed that Kyle Navin had purchased germicidal bleach, hair and grease drain opener, Goo Gone stain remover and contractor cleanup bags.
State Police, FBI and local authorities have been at the Weston home since Thursday afternoon where the remains were found.
