Easton Firefighter Killed In Storm Worked In Stamford

EASTON, Conn. – The Easton firefighter killed in the line of duty during Hurricane Sandy Monday also worked at General Reinsurance Corporation in Stamford.

Russell Neary was a lieutenant with the Easton Fire Department. He was struck by a falling limb while removing debris from in front of his truck at 7:45 p.m. on Judd Road, according to Easton Town Clerk Derek Buckley. Neary was a volunteer member of the department. It is unclear when Neary began his service with the Easton Fire Department.

Neary was also a vice president at General Reinsurance and was active in Easton with the Democratic Party. Neary was also a volunteer EMT. His brother, Peter, is the Easton fire marshal.

Neary was killed as he and two other firefighters were returning from a fire call. The firemen stopped to remove a log that had fallen on the road when he was struck by a falling limb.
