Faith Food Pantry of Sandy Hook; Off-Beat Players Inc. of Danbury; and Shepherds Inc. of Bridgeport each received $1,666.
Westport Resources is a leading independent investment and financial planning firm serving individuals, families, municipalities and institutions around the world.
During the Charity Golf Classic at The Connecticut Golf Club, golfers participated in a contest to answer quiz questions about Fairfield County’s community needs. The foursome (or threesome) with the most correct answers won a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation to contribute to a local charity (or charities) of its choice.
The three organizations were chosen because they are special to the members of the threesome, all managing directors at Westport Resources: Paul LaBossiere, Michael Portnoy and Mark Tonucci.
“We’re very pleased to offer support to these organizations,” Portnoy said. “We believe in their missions and appreciate the positive difference they make in our community.”
LaBossiere chose to support Off-Beat Players, a theater company that provides opportunity for young people of all backgrounds and abilities to participate in a performing arts program. Portnoy chose to support Faith Food Pantry that serves residents of Newtown where he resides. Tonucci donated to Shepherds, a nondenominational organization that provides disadvantaged inner city Connecticut youth with a quality college preparatory education at a non-public high school and the introduction of a a mentor who fills a void in their lives.
Juanita T. James, president and chief executive officer of the Community Foundation, said: “It’s joyful to see how so many people want to make a difference in Fairfield County. I love how this threesome selected to support a food pantry, a performing arts program for young people, and college preparatory education for inner city students.”
John Vaccaro, founder and chief executive officer of Westport Resources, said: “We are pleased that our Charity Golf Classic helped raised awareness and support of our community’s needs. Congratulations to our winning threesome and its chosen charities.”
Westport Resources’ Charity Golf Classic has raised more than $115,000 for Fairfield County’s Community Foundation since its inaugural tournament took place in September 2013. ($55,000 was raised in September; more than $60,000 was raised in June.) The firm underwrote the entire cost of both tournaments, allowing 100 percent of the funds raised to be contributed directly to the Community Foundation.
