The 12-man a cappella group sang for Y's Men of Westport/Weston. After a couple of songs, they were joined by Whiff alumnus Jonathan Steinberg, who is now the state representative for Westport's 136th House District.
He sang with them for what is customarily their closing number - "the Whiffenpoof Song" - and for which they invite all alumni to join them on stage.
The group offered "terrific harmonies of a number of mostly well-known songs, opening with 'Ride That Chariot,' later Paul Simon’s 'The Boxer,' two Cole Porter numbers, 'Night and Day' and 'Too Darn Hot,' Pete Seeger’s 'If I Had a Hammer,' and the Muppets’ 'Rainbow Connection,' before closing with 'When the Saints Go Marching In,'" according to a press release.
They also introduced themselves, playfully mentioning what they hope to do when they grow up. One said he is a theater major who hopes to be a waiter, and another is double majoring in math, a press release said.
The Whiffenpoofs were founded in 1909 by five Yale Glee Club singers at Mory’s Temple Bar in New Haven. Members are selected during their junior years and they take a year off to tour the world and perform in concert.
The concert was at the Unitarian Church in Westport.
