WESTPORT, Conn. — The Westport Sunrise Rotary will host its 26th annual wine tasting, which is dubbed Westport Uncorked, this Friday evening at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, beginning at 7 p.m.
Cory D’Addario, Liquor Locker’s wine expert, has selected more than 60 wines from around the globe for event-goers to taste, enjoy — and purchase. Festivities Catering will present a magnificent four-course buffet.
Travis Worrell of Westport Auctions will conduct an auction of more than 20 items gathered for personal enjoyment or business entertainment, with proceeds supporting the Rotary's charities.
"The right wine makes the well prepared dish more enjoyable,” said D’Addario, a trained chef who helps her customers choose wines that make their entertaining memorable.
She recommends starting the evening with a taste of Goutorbe Champagne. Begin dining at the “Just Fried” chip bar with a variety of dips, charcuterie and cheese selections. Bring out the flavors of a light fish dish with a pinot grigio, or select fuller, richer wines such as the Domaine Solitude Chateauneuf de Pape, Ladera Cabernet, Sequoia Grove Cabernet or the Domaine du Gros Nore Bandol to accompany the petit sirloin beef on gratin dauphinois.
The festivities will offer a sautéed to order paella with a choice of shrimp, chicken, chorizo or mussels. D’Addario recommends two Spanish wines, a Mario Tempranillo Blend Ribera del Duero or Abadia da Cove Albariño.
For the dessert of seasonal pies, accompany the apple with the Spanish Ochoa Moscatel, and the pumpkin with Portuguese Taylor Floodgate 20 Year Old Tawny Port.
All of the evening’s selections may be ordered from Liquor Locker, at a 10 percent discount for broken cases, and 15 percent for full.
Look over the auction items, which make great holiday gifts or offer a great opportunity to treat a special customer or client.
Items include a wheelbarrow loaded with two dozen fine wines; four MVP field level first base seats; two sets of UConn basketball tickets; a round of golf for three at the Patterson Club with the club pro; a tour of the Capitol with U.S. Rep. Jim Himes; a symphony package with the Stamford, Bridgeport, Norwalk and Ridgefield orchestras; a complete family and estate trust plan; a three-month membership to the Westport-Weston Family Y; and many more.
Westport Uncorked is sponsored by Castlekeep Investment Advisors; Fairfield County Bank; The Connecticut Group; Berchem, Moses and Devlin, PC; and Eric Zielinski & Co.
Tickets may be purchased at $50 per person by visiting the group's website , where you can also learn more about Sunrise Rotary.
