To the Editor:

The Nov. 5 election for first selectman is almost upon us, and now is the time to evaluate your options.

We have had 16 years of unilateral Democratic decision-making and it is time for change.

Jim Marpe is the only candidate with both the professional management and town service experience needed to manage Westport. Jim is a change agent who views things from all perspectives. He will not make unilateral or political decisions in the management of our highly competent civil servants. No more poor and costly decisions on Saugatuck sewerage, on underfunded pension funds, on raising taxes that drive seniors out of Westport.

Jim Marpe is a fair and dedicated member of our community, serving Westport since 2005 on the Board of Education, as interim chairman and vice chairman from 2007-12. He negotiated three teachers' contracts, served on the board of Homes with Hope (formerly Interfaith Housing Association), as chairman of the board of trustees for the Westport/Weston Family Y and as co-chairman of the Westport Rotary Club.

Jim’s professional experience as a senior executive at Accenture gives him the skills needed for cost-effective and cost-conscious management based on facts not politics.

Jim Marpe has the experience and skills to lead Westport into a future of new and challenging issues. Jim and his running mate, Avi Kaner, have my vote, and hopefully yours, for Westport’s future.
