NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk's Human Services Council recently received a $10,000 grant for use by its Children's Connection program. The grant came from Fairfield-based Near & Far Aid.

The grant was received in April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Children's Connection program is one of eight Children’s Advocacy Centers in Connecticut. The primary goal of Children’s Connection is to "coordinate the investigation, prosecution and treatment child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse, while helping abused families and their children heal," according to a press release.

“The support of Near & Far Aid enables us to continue to help local victims of abuse and their families, while also educating the community on child abuse awareness and prevention,” said Kari Pesavento, director of Children’s Connection. “As a Children’s Advocacy Center, we offer a research-based, collaborative methodology for forensic interviewing that enables us fully investigate the crime without re-traumatizing the child. The commitment of civic organizations such as Near & Far Aid makes our work possible.”

Children’s Connection is a cooperative effort involving public and private resources that work together to identify, substantiate, and treat cases of child abuse, according to the release. Team members include the Connecticut State Attorney’s Office; the Department of Children & Families; Family & Children’s Agency, the New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Wilton and Weston police departments; Norwalk Hospital, the Office of Victim Services and The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling & Education.

“Our team works together very closely on these cases, and we are a tightly knit family that looks out not only for the clients and families we serve, but for the continued high-quality of our program," said Pesavento.
