WESTPORT, Conn. -- There will be a full day writing retreat with visiting instructors Pat Dunn and Alexandra Soiseth at the Fairfield County Writers' Studio in Westport on Saturday, Feb. 27.
There are two things most writers need and crave: time and space. In this class, writers will give themselves the gift of time.
In the space of the workshop, and with guidance from Dunn and Soiseth, writers will find and begin to write the stories they live every day. Using histories, memories and senses as launching pads, writers will begin to transform the ordinariness of their lives into extraordinary fiction and nonfiction.
This class is for those who want to write but don’t yet believe they have anything to say, as well as for those who want to write but need the time and space in which to do it.
Soiseth is the assistant director of the MFA Fiction Program at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y. She has been teaching personal essay writing, memoir and fiction for more than 15 years.
Dunn holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College, where she is the Director of the Writing Institute. She is the author of “Rebels By Accident” which provides readers with a glimpse into the events leading up to the Arab Spring, in addition to speaking about issues of identity, race and culture. The story is told through the eyes of Mariam, a Muslim-American teenager.
The retreat will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $195.
