Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos, 2017 will mark the Connecticut professional theater’s 87th season. There will be two changes for the 2017 season: it will start and end one month later, running from May 30 through Nov. 19, with two of the five plays staged in the fall instead of only one as in past years; and, in addition to a five-play season package, a "pick four" package will be introduced.

“Our 2017 season covers a wide range of exciting, thought-provoking, and wonderfully entertaining theater,” said Lamos. “New plays and old. From the giddy laughter of Peter Shaffer's hit comedy to the powerful and moving story of a woman in the U.S. military.”

The 2017 season will begin with “Lettice and Lovage,” a Tony Award nominee, written by Peter Shaffer playing May 30 through June 17, Lamos will direct.

“Appropriate,” an Obie Award winner is a comic drama about family secrets written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Directed by David Kennedy, the Playhouse associate artistic director, the play runs July 11 through July 29.

“Grounded,” winner of the Lucille Lortel Award, is a contemporary drama written by George Brant. The play runs Aug. 15 through Sept. 2, 2017.

“Sex with Strangers” is a look at a modern relationship in the digital age, written by Laura Eason. The play will be staged Sept. 26 through Oct. 14, 2017.

The 2017 season culminates with “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare which will run Oct. 31 through Nov. 19, 2017, directed by Lamos.

The performance schedule is Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 2 and 8 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

The early-bird deadline for tickets is Saturday, Sept. 10. All season ticket holders receive benefits. Single tickets will go on sale in March.
