Naloxone is an antidote used to treat opioid overdoses. Ellen Brezovsky, LCSW, Director of Community Relations at Silver Hill Hospital, will facilitate the training. The training session is open to the first 30 registrants, who will learn how to identify an opioid overdose and administer naloxone. The presentation will also include an overview of opioid use in Connecticut and discussion of risk factors for opioid dependence.

“Upon completion of the training, a limited number of registered participants will also receive a free, two-dose kit of naloxone for intranasal administration,” said Westport Human Service Director Elaine Daignault.

The Westport Prevention Coalition, a partnership of Westport residents and professionals, is partnering with Silver Hill and Progressive Diagnostics to educate individuals about the risks of heroin and other opioid use, and the potentially life-saving benefits of naloxone.

"Silver Hill is invested in preventing opioid overdoses” said Brezovsky. “Anything we can do to decrease the risk of accidental overdose and death from opioids is a top priority, and we look forward to continuing to partner with community agencies to accomplish that goal.”

Registration is required. RSVP by email to adaugelli@westportct.gov or call the Department of Human Services at (203) 341-1050 with any questions.
