Allen, who is the award-winning author of "Unlocking Worlds: A Reading Companion for Book Lovers," will share a variety of ways reading can positively affect a person's well-being.

The talk will be followed by a book signing and door-prize giveaway. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Walk-ins are welcome.

In addition to discussing the health benefits of reading, Allen will address curating a reading list and unique book-clubbing ideas.

A lifelong avid reader, Allen is a writer, college instructor, book group moderator and founder and editor of the book news website, Books, Ink at Hamlethub.

She holds a Ph.D. in English education and a master's degree in English literature and has taught expository writing, literature and communications to undergraduates at New York University, Fairfield University and Post University.

The author also facilitates private book group discussions, and her writing about books has appeared in print and online magazines and news sites.

Allen’s experiences as a reader, writer and teacher collectively led to "Unlocking Worlds."

“I’m excited to share ways in which books can enrich lives and improve health," said Allen.  "My joy -- whether through writing my book, serving as the editor of Books, Ink, or leading presentations such as this Wellness Talk -- is to generate conversation with and among book lovers."

The event will be from 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Call (203)-226-8981 for any questions.
