Highs will only be in the low to mid-40s on Monday, April 7 and Tuesday, April 8 over a broad area from New York City up to Boston, according to the National Weather Service.

During that period, snow showers are expected in locations shown in the lighter shade of blue in the first image above from AccuWeather. Steadier snow is predicted for those areas in darker blue, including parts of upstate New York and northern New England.

"Along with the cold air will come the risk of snow squalls across western Pennsylvania and New York Monday evening and Monday night," AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex DaSilva said. "These snow squalls can be particularly dangerous for motorists as they can greatly reduce visibility and drop a quick coating to 1 inch of snow."

Following morning rain and showers, skies will remain cloudy during the day and into the night before precipitation returns in most areas in the evening into the overnight hours.

Skies will gradually clear on Tuesday, which will be mostly sunny and blustery, with wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour and some areas seeing gusts as high as 40 mph.

It will remain sunny with temps still below normal on Wednesday, April 9.

Clouds return on Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11, with temperatures finally reaching seasonable norms. Showers will be possible both days.
