EASTON, Conn. -- With fewer children born in town, among other factors, Easton's school enrollment is on the descent, according to the Easton Courier.
The newspaper reports pre-K through eighth-grade enrollment figures in 2007 of 1, 178, at its peak, and now is 921. The decline over the last five years is around 3.5 percent a year and is expected to go down at a rate of 2.9 percent annually over the next five years, the newspaper reports.
The enrollment for kindergarten is driven by the number of kids born to families in Easton and the number of families with kids who move in or out of Easton, the article says.
Enrollment history shows that 75-80 percent of kids going into kindergarten are born in Easton, the report states.
