A Trumbull man who police say was asleep and under the influence behind the wheel has been charged.
Wilton Police say they observed a 2011 Toyota Camry missing the front left tire that was parked in the North travel lane of Cedar Road on Monday, Oct. 14 around 3:30 a.m.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Sylvester Jones, 76, of Trumbull, was asleep in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running, police say.
Police made contact with Jones, who was allegedly unable to obey simple commands and answer questions.
Jones was asked and subsequently refused to submit to field sobriety tests, according to police.
Jones was arrested and transported to the Wilton Police Department, where police say he refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
Jones faces the following charges:
- Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
- Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension
- Failure to drive upon right
Jones was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on Thursday, Oct. 24.
