Jerry Diaz, 18, of Stamford, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 19, in connection with the August crash that killed two teens, said Stamford Police Sgt. Jeffrey Booth.

The crash took place around 2:32 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, when a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Diaz, struck two utility polices, knocking down both of them and sending live electrical wires on top of the vehicle on Canal Street, just north of Ludlow Street, said Booth.

Diaz, who was in custody on another matter, was picked up on a warrant following a lengthy investigation by the department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad into the crash that left two Stamford residents, NiShawn Tolliver, 18, and Kymani Pollack, 19, dead.

In addition, four other occupants of the vehicle suffered serious and life-threatening injuries, Booth said.

The investigation found that alcohol use and speed were both determined to have been factors in the crash, Booth said.

Diaz was charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of manslaughter with a motor vehicle, two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence, and reckless operation.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The investigation was completed by Booth and officers Lindsey Yanicky and Sean Grabowski.
