Stamford Man, 23, Dies After Being Arrested For Domestic Dispute With Mother

Police say a man arrested following a domestic dispute with his mother died while in custody in Stamford.

The incident began around 11:40 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22 when Stamford officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute between a mother and her 23-year-old son, said Stamford Interim Chief of Police Thomas Wuennemann.

When officers arrived on the scene, the mother told them her son had fled prior to their arrival.

Based on the information gained from the family during the investigation, the son’s arrest was warranted for domestic violence charges, the chief said.

The officers left the area and received another call from the mother at 1:24 a.m., informing them that the son had returned home and the mother called 911 via text.

Officers responded back to the residence and saw the son running away. They searched the area and found the man hiding in nearby woods, Wuennemann said.

The unidentified man was arrested and transported to the Stamford Police Department.

Upon arriving at police headquarters, the man began experiencing distress and officers immediately initiated a medical response from the Samford Fire Department and EMS, Wuennemann said

Medical responders administered aid to the suspect at the police department and transported him to Stamford Hospital, where he later died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, he added.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
