The owner of David Harvey Jewelers in Darien reported to police last week that several alarm activations had occurred at the business overnight, prompting officers to respond to the location, which was secured each time an alarm went off.

Police said that the owner had spoken with the utility company, which reported that there was power to the building, and only power had been cut to David Harvey Jewelers.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, the owner had an electrician respond to determine what the electrical issue was, and it was found that an exterior breaker had been intentionally turned off only to the jewelry store, and none of the other businesses. The lock to the breaker had also been damaged so the suspects could gain access.

Further investigation of surveillance footage found that a suspect had cut power to business, allowing the response by police and employees and perpetuating a burglary once the scene was cleared. Video showed two men walking in the area each time, and a review of footage from a neighboring business showed one of the men and a woman walking in the area earlier in the day.

There were no reports of any missing merchandise. The incident remains under investigation. Check Daily Voice for updates.
