Police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to take a FedEx delivery intended for a Darien homeowner.

Police responded to the report of a suspicious person on Wednesday, June 19 at 5:41 p.m. at 4 Oak Park Ave. who was described as a middle-aged white male.

The man reportedly had been standing on the street for a couple of hours before the call was made, said Darien Police.

When police arrived the man told them he was waiting for a friend to give him a ride to Hartford, as he had been in town visiting relatives, according to the report.

With no ground to detain the man, police let him leave, said Darien Police.

Then at 6:30 p.m., Darien Police received a call from the resident of the address again, they said.

The caller said they received an unexpected package from FedEx, containing a Capital One Credit Card, police said.

The FedEx employee advised the homeowner that earlier in the day, around 10:30 a.m., a man matching the description of the man police encountered flagged him down and attempted to take delivery of the package, said Darien Police.

The male told the driver he worked for the homeowner and was supposed to take delivery of the package, the report said.

The driver did not turn the package over to the man. The FedEx driver said the male was driving a silver sedan with Ontario, Canada plates.

In an attempt to ensure residents are aware of an ongoing mail interception scheme, the Darien Police has released the man's photo and information about him.

The man identifies himself as “Paul Doane" and was seen on two occasions, according to the Darien Police Department.

An investigation into his potential criminal activity revealed he has been contacted by police in other jurisdictions within the state, said police.

Darien Police asks the public's help by reporting any sightings of the man seen in the photos.

Camera footage shows him to be driving a silver sedan with Canadian plates, according to police.

The public is reminded not to confront or engage the man and to contact Darien Police as soon as possible.

The matter continues to be an active investigation, said police.
