At around 3:45 p.m. on Monday, the truck carrying a full tank of approximately 2,800 gallons of propane was traveling east on Beacon Road in Bethany. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Ralph Fensore of Monroe, was attempting to negotiate a curve in the roadway when he lost control of the truck, causing it to veer off the road, state police said.
The truck hit about 80 feet of metal guardrail before it skid out of control, overturned and hit a residential structure, state police said. The immediate area was evacuated as a precaution, with the Bethany Fire Department, Beacon Falls Fire Department, and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responding to the scene. The Connecticut State Police Truck Squad assisted in the investigation.
The road was closed for several hours. Fensore sustained minor injuries in the crash, but refused medical attention on the scene. He was found to be at fault for the crash, and was cited for failure to drive in the proper lane, state police said.
