Long Island Woman, 19, Killed When Jeep Crashes Into Tree

A 19-year-old Long Island woman was killed in a single-vehicle early morning crash.

It happened just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk County Police said.

Kaitlyn Schaal, of Mount Sinai, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Old Town Road when the vehicle crossed the northbound lane and struck a tree on the east side of the road at Greenhaven Drive, according to police.

Schaal was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
