An officer from the Scarsdale Police Department stopped Torrington resident Jose David Felix Orozco shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, when his Jeep was spotted swerving and repeatedly crossing over the double yellow line.

During the traffic stop, officers spoke with Orozco, 34, who stated that he had several shots hours earlier in White Plains. The officer said that there was the smell of alcohol on Orozco’s breath and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.

Orozco proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and required additional directions from an officer during at least one test. A breathalyzer at the scene showed that Orozco had a blood alcohol content of .16 percent, double the legal limit, and he was taken into police custody.

According to police, further investigation found that there were two open Modelo beer cans on the floor in front of the passenger’s seat, an empty and full beer can in the center console.

Once at Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Orozco submitted to a Datamaster DMT test, which found his blood alcohol content to be .19 percent, more than double the legal limit. A computer check found that Orozco had been arrested for a DWI on Sept. 7, 2017, in White Plains. Police noted that at the time of the latest DWI, Orozco was known to be temporarily living on Yellow Stone Avenue in Greenburgh.

Orozco was arrested and charged with felony counts of operating a motor vehicle with a prior conviction and aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent. Orozco was also cited for moving from his lane unsafely and having an open container, both infractions.

Following his arraignment, Orozco was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, March 13.
