The chase began during the early morning of Friday, Feb. 24 around 3:20 a.m., when police in Port Chester were alerted by the Greenwich PD that a vehicle that had been stolen ten minutes prior in Mamaroneck was heading toward the village's border on Putnam Avenue.

Port Chester PD units then swiftly headed toward the area to apprehend the suspect and found that the vehicle had lost a front tire and was traveling at a slow speed of around 15 mph. Despite this though, the vehicle refused to stop and intentionally drove into Lyon Park to avoid officers, causing severe damage, according to Port Chester PD.

After this, the stolen car kept driving and continued on Haines Boulevard, where it then drove onto several lawns in another attempt to avoid authorities before purposefully hitting the side of a police cruiser.

The vehicle then hit a second car before continuing on Betsy Brown Road into the village of Rye Brook, where the Rye Brook PD joined the chase.

Still continuing with only three tires at a low rate of speed, the stolen vehicle hit yet another marked Port Chester PD cruiser on its passenger side, causing the cruiser to leave the road and crash into a tree. A uniformed officer was injured as a result of the crash.

The chase continued following the crash as the stolen car kept traveling on Betsy Brown Road before entering Crawford Park, where it once again caused significant damage.

It was here that the vehicle was finally forced to stop after hitting some bushes. Finding himself stuck, the driver then tried to run away from officers on foot but was caught by officers from Port Chester and Rye Brook PD.

Ultimately, the chase resulted in multiple cruisers being damaged, an officer sustaining injuries, and a considerable amount of property damage.

The driver, a 40-year-old Mount Vernon man whose name has not yet been released, is now awaiting arraignment at Port Chester PD for "a multitude of charges," the department said.

Police added that the stolen vehicle had been left running unattended, and reminded residents to always lock their cars to prevent similar incidents.

The officer who was injured was taken to the hospital after the chase and was subsequently released, police said.
