MONROE, Conn. -- The "Food for Fines" drive -- where the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library in Monroe will reduce your existing fines by 50 cents for each nonperishable item donated -- is ending on Thursday, Dec. 31.
The library's Teen Advisory Board has sponsored this innovative food drive to support the Monroe Food Pantry. Library patrons can reduce their library fines while simultaneously making a difference in the community.
Expired items don't count, and the fine reduction doesn't apply to lost or damaged items.
Patrons without fines are welcome as well. They'll receive a raffle ticket for every item donated. At the end of the drive, one lucky winner will receive a $20 gift card to Linda's Story Time.
All donations can be dropped off at the circulation desk. The library is located at 733 Monroe Turnpike, in Monroe. Call 203-452-2850 for more information.
The library closes at 1 p.m Thursday, Dec. 31. For a list of specifically-needed items, click here.
