The Norwalk-based Human Services Council is gearing up for SoNo Stroll, an annual fundraising event that is in its eighth year. Proceeds from the event, which is set to take place June 8, help the council’s nonprofit efforts in Norwalk and surrounding communities.

“It’s the biggest fundraiser that we have,” said Kim Killoy, the council’s director of development and communications. “We rely on grants and foundations funds and some state contracts for each of the programs, so we really can’t live without the SoNo Stroll.”

Killoy said the event raises $120,000 to $130,000 each year. This year, she hopes to raise $150,000 for the organization.

The stroll has raised upwards of $700,000 over the past seven years. Since 2009, more than 16 restaurants in the South Norwalk community have hosted attendees, according to the council.

“Most of the businesses down there let us promote the event and donate auction items, which is really cool,” Killoy said.

Attendees three-course meal from a signature menu. Before dinner, guests are invited to attend a cocktail party with live and silent auctions.

The auctions offer attendees a chance to help the council and enjoy a memorable experience within reach.

“Auctions are usually fun, but a lot of times things are very high priced, so what we try and do in our silent auctions is to go through and put some high-priced items in for the $25 raffle tickets,” Killoy said.

In future years, Killoy said she would like to see the ideal of a stroll for a good cause expanded to other towns.

“I’d even like to see SoNo Stroll become maybe a Westport Walk or a Wilton Walk or something like that…in their center of town with their restaurants if that was possible because I think we can definitely expand it and it would be a lot of fun,” Killoy said.

The council serves Norwalk, New Canaan, Weston, Wilton and Westport. For more information or to RSVP, visit the council’s website here.

For over seven decades, the Human Services Council has identified unmet community needs and has “filled in the gaps” by creating and fostering programs that educate, safeguard and empower people living and working in our communities. Its initiatives have focused on alcohol and drug prevention, supportive housing, child advocacy, homelessness, hunger, medical and behavioral healthcare for children and adolescents, volunteerism and mentoring.
