Child From CT Dies Of Flu In State's First Pediatric Fatality Of Season
Health officials confirmed that a child from Connecticut has died of influenza. The child, a resident of New Haven County, died in December in what is the first pediatric influenza death in the state this flu season, the Connecticut Department of Public Health said. Officials said the child was between the ages of less than a year old and 9 years old. CDC Warns Of Rise In Melatonin Poisoning In Kids Nationwide
Health officials are warning of an increase in melatonin poisoning among children. Over the past decade, the number of pediatric ingestions of melatonin rose 530%, with more than 260,000 ingestions reported between 2012 and 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Melatonin became the most frequently ingested substance among kids reported to national poison control centers in 2020, the CDC said. Connecticut's First Child Death Of Flu Season Reported
The first death of a child in Connecticut during the 2018-19 influenza season has occurred, the Department of Health announced. The flu remains "widespread" statewide, with four more deaths - including the first child - bringing the death toll to 29 this flu season. “Our hearts go out to the family of this child.
