The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 7, when members from the Bridgeport Police Department Emergency Services Unit and Bridgeport Police Harbor Unit along with the state Army National Guard CST and State Police Mass Transit Unit were holding training exercises at the ferry dock, bus station, and train station, said Rowena White, director of communication for the City of Bridgeport.

While training, the group received word that a suspicious package was reported onboard the Port Jefferson Ferry "PT Barnum" scheduled to arrive in Bridgeport Harbor.

Officers located the package and after inspection, found that it contained 4.416 pounds of marijuana, White said.

Officials believe the person delivering the box may have seen the officers training and abandoned it.

The Bridgeport Police Narcotics and Vice Division will conduct the follow-up investigation and examine surveillance videos.

No arrests have been made, she added.
