STRATFORD, Conn. — A father and son from Stratford were both arrested on multiple charges after an armed assault in West Haven that shut down one of the city's main streets and drew out the SWAT team on Wednesday, police said.

The incident began at 12:04 p.m. Wednesday as West Haven Police Officers responded to the Armstrong Building at 7 Saw Mill Road for what was originally reported as an irate man with a gun barricaded in the building, police said.

It was later determined that an assault had taken place inside, with one suspect armed with a handgun, police said.

Officers shut down roads in the area and rerouted pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic for safety, police said. SWAT and SRT teams were activated and assisted in searching the building, police said.

The male suspect was removed from the building safely using police negotiators and the department's Special Response Team, police said.

As part of the investigation, three separate search warrants were executed by detectives, including one at a residence in Stratford.

The handgun used during the assault was recovered, as were three additional handguns, police said.

As a result of the investigation, a father and his adult son from Stratford were arrested and charged in the assault of two male victims. One victim suffered serious injuries, and the other victim minor injuries, police said.

Mark J. Fabrizi, 49, of Delaware Drive, Stratford, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree unlawful restraint, third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

Mark T. Fabrizi, 26, of the same address, was charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit assault with a firearm and first-degree conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint.
